Legacy

Established in 1929 with a mission to empower women through education, Raghunath Girls’ Post Graduate College has a rich history of academic excellence and innovation. Founded by Mrs. Kripa Devi in memory of her late husband, Lala Raghunath ji, the college began as a small school with just five students. Under the Kripa Devi Trust Fund, it evolved steadily, progressing from a school to a high school by 1932, an intermediate secondary school by 1936, and finally, a graduate college in 1948. By 1959, it had attained the esteemed status of a postgraduate college, marking significant milestones in its pursuit of educational advancement. Significant milestones in the college’s infrastructure development include the laying of the foundation stone of the central Library by The Hon’ble Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on December 23, 1951. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of India, inaugurated the hostel on 3rd January 1961. The Prakashvati Sood Manovigyan Kaksh was established in October 1968 while the library was founded on 11th January 1972, by Dr. B. Gopala Reddy, Governor of UP. The library officially began its operations on 24th February 1976, after formal inauguration by Dr. M. Chenna Reddy, Governor of UP.The Auditorium’s foundation stone was laid by Shri Kailash Nath Katju ji, Defense Minister, Government of India, on August 15, 1986, symbolizing the institution’s commitment to holistic education. The Food Science Department building was funded by Smt. Kusumlata Kansal, daughter of Shri Gyan Prakash Mittal, a member of management, in 1999. Dr. Vimla Puri contributed to the establishment of the common room on 5th November 2001. In 2004, the institution inaugurated the History Museum “Ateet ke Jharokhe se”. The BBA block was inaugurated by Professor Ved Prakash, Vice Chairman of UGC, on 6th February 2010. Additionally, the Chemistry Instrumentation Lab, funded by Dr. Madhu Mittal, former Principal of RGPG, was established on 12th July 2010. Finally, the PCM floor was inaugurated by Prof. Ved Prakash, Chairman of UGC, on 16th February 2013. The college was & has been guided as well as blessed by eminent personalities in its management from time to time as president and secretary. A few amongst them are Sh. Raghukul Tilak ( Ex Governor , Rajasthan), Dr. V. Puri (Retired Professor & Scientist of National repute in the field of Botany), Prof. Satish Chandra ( Ex Chairman, UGC) and presently our president Sh. V. K. Modi ( Industrialist , Modi group) & secretary , Sh. Puneet Nath ( Industrialist ). In addition to overall development of our college in various spheres, the management has actively contributed to digitalisation of rare books in our central library in the year 2022. Today, Raghunath Girls’ Post Graduate College stands as a prestigious institution in Meerut city, catering to nearly 5000 female students across various disciplines including Humanities, Sciences, Commerce, and Education. In its commitment to staying relevant and innovative, the college introduced bachelor’s degree programs in vocational subjects such as Yogic Science, Applied Clinical Psychology, and Information Technology in the academic year 2015-16, showcasing its responsiveness to evolving educational needs. The college has earned recognition for its academic standards, undergoing four cycles of NAAC accreditation, securing ‘A’ grade twice and recently achieving a ‘B+’ grade. Additionally, it was honored as a College of Potential for Excellence from 2006 to 2014 and designated as a College of Excellence by the UGC in 2014, highlighting its dedication to academic rigor and quality. The college also houses a range of modern facilities such as an ANALEMMA Sun dial, a Psychological Testing & Counselling Centre, 2 NCC Units, 2 NSS Units, and a 250 bedded hostel within the Campus. Additionally, it boasts a fully furnished and upgraded auditorium with a seating capacity of 400. With its proud legacy and commitment to excellence, Raghunath Girls’ Post Graduate College continues to inspire and empower generations of women, nurturing them into leaders and scholars of tomorrow.
