A premier girls’ institution in Uttar Pradesh, Raghunath Girls’ Post-Graduate College is situated in the heart of Meerut city where the pursuit of learning is taken seriously Ranked No. 1 by the U.P. government in 1994, re-accredited with grade ‘A’ in 2016 by NAAC with CGPA 3.13,Presently college is accredited with grade ‘B+’ by NAAC with CGPA 2.53. The college has been conferred with the status of College of Excellence in 2014 by the UGC.
Rising to its present stature from very humble beginnings, Raghunath Girls’ Post-Graduate College was founded in 1929 by Shrimati Kripa Devi in memory of her late husband, Lala Raghunath Ji under the Kripa Devi Trust Fund as a small school in an area of 2.95 acres. It became a high school in 1932, an intermediate secondary school in 1936.
In 1948, it became a graduate college in Humanities and in 1958 the Science stream was introduced. It acquired the Post-Graduate status in Humanities in 1959 and in Science in 1982. Commerce at the graduate level was established in 1993 and post-graduation in 2005.
The college also offers vocational courses in Food Science and Quality Control, Computer Application granted by the UGC. Since 2015-16, Yogic Science and Applied Clinical Psychology have been granted under DDUKK. All the departments are equipped with e-classrooms of their own.
Incentives for Excellence
The students of the college are given incentives and encouragement in the form of prizes, medals, citations for excelling in academic and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The names of the academic achievers are also inscribed on the Honour Board. In this way the college aspires to establish a system of Quality Assurance which would, on a continuous basis evaluate and monitor the quality of education and training imparted at the institute. The improved teaching learning process has already gained for the college the status of College of Excellence in 2014. Teachers appointed in various departments under the self-finance scheme have been granted special financial aid from the U.P. Govt. in recognition of their exemplary performance in their respective departments.
Library
The College is proud of its well-equipped library, spread across four floors, comprising a journal room, a research section, a students’ reading room, and a book bank with a fully computerized open access system. It has around one lakh books under lending, textbooks, and reference books with 65000 titles, 4300 bound journals, and subscriptions to 89 Indian and International journals, 37 magazines, and 15 newspapers. It provides access to e-Journals, INFLIBNET, and DELNET. It also has a photocopying facility for the students
Faculty and Students
The College is committed to being a community that fearlessly pursues excellence, invests in developing well-groomed students, and prepares them to make a difference in the world. It has an outstanding and dynamic faculty comprised of permanent, ad-hoc, contractual, and guest teachers. Experienced retired Associate Professors of the college are also re-employed in vacant posts under the U.P. Government scheme to take classes in various subjects. The college has around 120 teachers, 72 have doctorate degrees and the rest are striving towards it. The numbers of students are around 5000. Special facilities are provided to research scholars whose number vary from 110-120.
Management and Governance
The College has a prestigious and erudite managing committee, Sh. Vinay Kumar Modi is presently the President and Sh. Puneet Nath and Dr. Rahul Mittal are Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively.
Auditorium
It is facilitating presentation in terms of sound and backdrop. The auditorium is centrally air-conditioned and has 400 seats on the ground and first floor. It has a full-screen facility to showcase films and documentaries.
Office
The office of the college is computerized and is manned by an efficient team of administerial staff. It has efficient 38 administerial staff members and 55 support staff as well.
